Room Parent Core Responsibilities

Room Parents will be asked to help with the following duties for the 2023-2024 School Year:

  1. Communicating about Thanksgiving Pie money donations

The PTO orders pies for every faculty and staff member at Curington to be delivered to the school the Thursday or Friday before Thanksgiving break. This is a long standing BISD tradition that PTO has a budget line for, however, the cost of pies varies year to year and donations are always appreciated. Donations for helping cover the cost will begin on November 8th, and we are scheduled to deliver the pies on November 18th or 19th.  Collected donations will all go to help pay for pies for all employees on our campus  (teachers, staff, custodians, CAMP teachers, administrators)

  1. Coordinating the Christmas Party and End of the Year Party.

Your teacher will let you know which day they have scheduled for their parties. If you do not hear from your teacher at least two weeks prior, please contact your teacher to ask how you can help.  Some teachers have a set party itinerary year after year.  Some grades do a grade-level party.  Once you find out what your teacher’s preferences are, you will then email parents to ask for food/any items needed for the party.  Sign-Up Genius is a free online tool that is very effective for sending out sign ups and getting volunteers on board!

  • Christmas Parties  Exact dates and times TBD
  • End of Year Parties  Exact dates and times TBD

  1. National Teacher Appreciation Week: May 1st - 5th, 2023

Email the parents in your homeroom two weeks before National Teacher Appreciation Week to let them know it’s coming up and to give them some ideas on how to show appreciation for your teacher. There will be a theme for that week, chosen by Mr. Myers and our Teacher Appreciation team.  PTO will notify you of the theme and suggested daily items as gifts so you can communicate to your parents.  A “Favorites List” has been completed for most if not all of our teachers.  This list will be sent out to you as soon as it is completed and available.  This list will be helpful during Teacher Appreciation Week, as well as throughout the entire year (for birthdays, Christmas, etc) so pass it along to the parents in your homeroom ASAP!

  1.  Help with coordinating supplies from your classroom for WAT.

The Walk-A-Thon coordinators, Jana Jonas and Brittney Kerr, will let Room Parents know what is needed for their homeroom/grade level so watch for those emails!

  • Canopy - You will be responsible for providing and setting up a canopy for your class for the day of WAT.  If you do not have a canopy, please reach out to other parents to see if there is one you can borrow.
  • Class Baskets for Auction - Holly Beckett  is our WAT Class Basket Auction Committee Chair
